Lots of sensory-heightening, mood-lightening shows this weekend, starting tonight (Friday) at Lola’s Saloon-Stockyards (105 W Exchange Av, 817-386-5008), when Sorta’s Trey Johnson and Fort Worth’s answer to the ’80s-era Plimsouls, Fate Lions, perform. Tonight at Fred’s (915 Currie St, 817-332-0083) in the West 7th corridor, whiteboy rastas Pablo & the Hemphill 7 will be playing. Recommended for fans of weed, cheeseburgers, dirty feet.

Over in Dallas tonight, The Burning Hotels and Odis will open for hot U.K. band The Horrors and Crocodiles at Granada Theater (3524 Greenville Av, 214-826-1885). Tix are $15-18. Recommended for fans of dark, romantic pop, New Order, early Radiohead.

The number of cool shows increases on Saturday. At Lola’s Saloon-Sixth in the West 7th corridor (2736 W 6th St, 817-877-0666), The Southern Sea and Prohibition-Era rockers the Whiskey Folk Ramblers will open for Southern-gothic homeboys The Theater Fire. Tix are $8. Recommended for retro enthusiasts, people who work in factories, beards.

The Moon (2911 W Berry St, by TCU, 817-926-9600) won’t be too shabby on Saturday. On the bill are The Murdocks, Ella Minnow, and the cut*off. Recommended for fans of The Old 97’s, The Pixies, Austin.

Also on Saturday: U2-ish glam-rockers Titanmoon will be joined by perhaps the best-looking band in North Texas, Lovie, at Lola’s Saloon-Stockyards (105 W Exchange Av, 817-386-5008). Tix are $6. Titanmoon is highly recommended, especially for Killers fans. Lovie? Eh, just go for the scenery.

Don’t forget: The recent subject of last issue’s music section feature, Rabbit’s Got the Gun, is playing on Saturday, with Villain Vanguard, New Noise Standard, and Webbed at Ridglea Theater (6025 Camp Bowie Blvd, on the West Side, 817-738-9500). Recommended for fans of horns, popping bass lines, multi-racial harmony.

On Sunday, it’s the DFW Childhood Cancer Sucks benefit with Zack Walther & The Cronkites at The Aardvark (2905 W Berry St, by TCU, 817-926-7814). Recommended for everyone.
