Two of the world’s greatest performance artists are celebrating birthdays today.

Elvis would have been 75 today if pills hadn’t waylaid him. He was never better than when he sang this song written specifically for him to close his 1968 comeback TV special:

And David Bowie was “born on this date in 1947” according to the TV. So, let’s see…subtract 1,947 from 2,010…or add 60 to 1,947…which make 2007 plus 3 to reach 2010 which equals…63?)

David Bowie is believed to be 63.

“The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” in 1972 brought glam-rock to a pinnacle. Check out this post-Ziggy performance of “Five Years” on “The Dinah Shore Show” of all places. Bowie had moved on from his Ziggy persona by then and he puts a new spin on the song, even adding some country-and-western licks to the mix.
