Fort Worth R&B singer-songwriter Nathan Brown relocated back home to Fort Worth from Little Rock a couple of years ago with a family, a bunch of new songs, and a new internet business venture, The Dead Media, a full-service 8-track repair shop, retailer, and, yes, record label. Having produced 8-tracks for Little Rock artists, Brown, upon arriving here, naturally shifted his focus to Fort Worth artists. Though years have passed since HearSay first told you about The Dead Media (August, 2009), Brown says all is well. His proof? On Sat., Feb. 5, at The Grotto (517 University Dr., Cultural District, 817-882-9331), Fort Worth psych-folkies Secret Ghost Champion will celebrate the release of their new Dead Media 8-track for the song “Now and Then” with another psych-folky band, one from nearby Cleburne, Igneous Grimm. And two other North Texas artists also have Dead Media 8-tracks on the way: The Me-Thinks, who’ll celebrate the release of their 8-track and a few other new songs on Sat., March 26, at Lola’s Saloon (2736 W. 6th St., W. 7th St. corridor, 817-877-0666); and RTB2, a collection of Dentonites who’ll celebrate their Dead Media 8-track release during their upcoming performance at the Denton music festival/conference 35 Conferette.
