A recent Washington Post article looked at the new trend of domestic hobbies among young women – stuff like knitting, sewing, quilt-making, etc. – and wondered if it’s a step back from feminist advances. The story mentions the DIY movement but not craftivism, the phenomenon of reclaiming so-called “women’s work” as inherently political, anti-corporate, and community empowering activities. DFW Craftivism has its monthly meeting 4:30-6pm tomorrow (Sat Dec 17) at 1919 Hemphill in the Fort. Women and men interested in participating should check it out.

  1. I know a couple of young women who have taken up knitting in recent years and become very passionate about it. Who woulda thunk it?
