The City of Arlington may be a little tardy to the food truck party. But let it be known that we in the Naturally Fun city (seriously, that’s one of the slogans) between FW and Big D like our food trucks…in small, controlled doses. I mean, we don’t let these folks loose in a food truck park, but we’ve experimented with food trucks in the parking lot at Globe Life Park. And for the past couple of years, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department has sponsored a few food truck events, mostly downtown at lunchtime.

Food Truck Fridays began again last Friday at Founder’s Plaza. Every Friday in September from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., head toward the Levitt Pavilion if you’re hungry. On Sep 11, you can enjoy sammiches from Addison-based Ruthie’s Rolling Café, tacos from Fort Worth’s Rolling Stone, and some tasty French fanciness from Chez Flo, along with dessert provided by Steel City Pops. Word to the wise: Since it’s still warm outside, you’ll want to coordinate the color of your Steel City Pop with your shirt. Or wear a bib. Or walk around all stained by the chocolate popsicle of your dreams. True story. You can see the whole schedule for the next three weeks here.

Starting on September 18, Food Truck Fridays rolls to the south side of Arlington. Every Friday through October 9, a variety of food trucks will be set up in S.J. Stovall Park off Sublett Road from 5-10 p.m. On September 18, sample Latin-infused goodies from What’s Cook-N Chef, Cajun-influenced eats from Rockin Ricks, try Korean from Say Kimichi, or join the weenie club with Samsons Dogs. Dessert options include the unique fluffy snow cones from Toadally Ice, pastries from Cup Cakin, and more Steel City Pops. Many of the trucks are Dallas-based, which may provide a different experience than one can get at, say, the Clearfork Food Park. A full schedule for Friday nights is available here.
