Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers’ season already looks lost — when did they turn into the Pittsburgh Pirates? (And has Dan McGraw already used that line?) Well, we still have the Fort Worth Cats, who are back to defend their American Association title. The last music lecture of the season by Dr. Punch Shaw addresses the theme of madness in classical music. This is a rich subject, especially for opera (Lucia di Lammermoor), but we hope Dr. Shaw mentions some striking modern examples such as Tobias Picker’s Emmeline, Conrad Susa’s Dangerous Liaisons, or Peter Maxwell Davies’ incredibly disturbing suite Eight Songs for a Mad King.
