I'm sure they aren't done bringing in bands - obviously FW has some great
musical talent (and Slavens has played TC and others from the Town of the Cow),
so I bet you'll get your wish soon.

Good LORD. The station hasn't even STARTED and you're already bagging on it. I'm
sure the musician list isn't even finalized -- they just announced the ones who
had CONFIRMED. Must've been a slow news day and you were desperate to write
something, anything, even if all it did was spread FOX News-like conspiracy
theory. Nice.

Be assured that local music gets played every day on KNON 89.3 FM.
The deejays
make up their own playlists, and play ONLY what they want to play.
It's listener
supported radio, so if you like to hear local music, find one of their shows to
support and help keep the local music alive. Hard rock, blues, rap, latin,
zydeco, gospel, ect. its ALL played at KNON 89.3 FM
See the music schedule at
KNON.org

Great article...... I dont think the FW scene is being ignored although I would
say that there is tons of talent in this scene and some day Austin, Dallas and
Fashville will see it. Then it will be too late. Fort Worth Music Scene is
rising fast and the artists themselves are the only ones to thank for it. I have
watched 95.9 flash around this big "we support the little guy" image and
any fool can see that if the little guy doesnt have big guy money then The Ranch
like most radio stations dont care who you are. - It does seem that the Dallas
stations give us more push than our very own do.

If you have a chance go see the trainwreck that is The Ranch Pickin Party
Contest. Bet you wont see any of the head honcho's of the ranch hanging around.
I have never entered myself mainly for the fact that music is AN ART and not a
contest. The Ranch calls it Helping young talented artists, I call it hosting an
average open mic, picking a random winner and telling them they've achieved
something.
After 7 years of hard work and self promoting...I wish I had known
that all I needed to do was sing two of my worst songs in a contest... its a
lottery.

As much as I love the concept of The Ranch, I agree that the Sundance
Square-located station could be broadcasting from Jupiter for all of the Fort
Worth music that gets played on air. Should any radio station spin music just
because it's local? Of course not. But with just a little digging, The Ranch's
program director(s) could discover a lot of local/817 talent that's as good as
if not better than what passes for primetime commercial country music today.

A-Train, the Ranch actually plays local musicians - it might not be the W. 7th
or Lola's crowd but Randy Rogers, Kyle Bennet Band, Joey Green, Scott Copeland
etc grace the airwaves. Inclusive not exclusive.
A-Train  - Maybe I should have been clearer   |74.7.144.xxx |2009-10-30 07:35:25
I stand corrected. PARTIALLY corrected. Now, I don't listen to The Ranch every
day, but Tommy Alverson is the only local I can recall who's had his music (one
song; that going-to-Mexico song) played during drive-time, and, drive-time, as
we all know, is pretty much the only airtime that matters. (For what it's worth,
I at least appreciate that a song by one Fort Worth artist, Kyle Bennett, is
included on a recent Ranch comp CD.)

Anyway, seems I've led myself up to a
question. Are Randy Rogers, Scott Copeland, et al. played during drive-time or
just played? Like "just played" between the hours of 2 and 6 a.m.? I'd
be interested to know.
FW2  - A-Train strike 2   |74.7.144.xxx |2009-10-30 10:08:12
KBB was played at 3:11 today, Randy Rogers 2:34, Joey Green 2:30, Bobby Duncan
1:39, KBB again 1:20 - throw in Josh Abbot and a few others. Not a huge fan of
the Ranch but they definitely support 817 artists - inclusion not exclusion.

Well, it's good to know The Ranch is playing some F-Dub artists. I suppose I was
too quick to write off the station, lo, these many months ago. I'll be more
vigilant in the future.
