Paramount Pictures and the Academy Award-winning Coen brothers (No Country for Old Men; Fargo; O Brother, Where Art Thou?; The Big Lebowski) are remaking the John Wayne classic True Grit and will be holding auditions for the lead role of Mattie at Billy Bob’s Texas (2520 Rodeo Plaza, in the Stockyards, 817-624-7117) on Sat., Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Coen brothers, who’ve already wrangled up Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Jeff Bridges for the project, are looking for a Caucasian girl between the ages of 12 and 16 to play the tough-as-nails 14-year-old who hires two U.S. marshals to exact revenge against her father’s murderer. No acting experience required. Auditioners are encouraged to bring their current photos and only one family member. Filming will begin in spring 2010.

I saw the original w / my folks at a drive-in on Cherry Lane! Remember it well.
I’ve seen only bits and pieces of it, but, from what I’ve read, it contains just the kind of circuitous plot that suits the Coen brothers’ filmmaking style. Look for the story behind the brothers’ decision to audition for Mattie in Fort Worth (of all places) in an upcoming issue of the FWWeekly.
Fill your hands Jeff Bridges, I think hes an excellent choice for True Grit & who knows better than the “The Brothers”.
