KXT studios in Dallas will be full of Fort Worth sounds over the next two days. From 3:15 to 4:15 tomorrow (Wednesday) on 91.7-FM, Fate Lions will be performing on-air. The quartet hearkens back to the wow and flutter of The Plimsouls, R.E.M., and Nick Lowe –– jangly, Eastern-tinged riffage, handclaps, tambourines, sweet vocal harmonies –– but does that easily recognizable Rickenbacker sound one better by casting wry lyrical glances at everything from contemporary sexuality to the bends and curves of the racetrack in which all of us rats are trapped.
The band will be followed on Thursday by Texas Music singer-songwriter Maren Morris, who’ll be in the studios sometime in the morning. Morris, a perennial Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards winner, will be performing some old and new tunes (though probably none of her stuff with her excellent radio-ready indie-rock band, They Were Stars).
Tune in. And mad love to KXT for reaching out to the Fort.
