Winner by default; it's the best choice, but local art-film bookings remain maddeningly inconsistent. Distributors say there's no audience here for indie and foreign movies, and that may be true. The cure for that isn't fewer art films, but more. The only way to build up an audience is through week-in-and-week-out programming at one location where moviegoers can rely on a constant venue for non-mainstream fare. If the Gourmet Cinema folks won't do that, then someone else should. Anything to save us from Hollywood's hype-driven money machines.
