This is not exactly fair, since no other arts organization puts on a single event as large and as high-profile as the Van Cliburn Piano Competition. We're compelled, though, to give credit to the organization's transition to a new venue, the changes in the competition's scoring system, and the efficiency with which audiences, press, and competitors were handled. We wish the jurors had been a bit more adventurous in their voting and that the orchestra had been a little better prepared. But what could top the Takács Quartet in the semifinal round?
