Best Ice Cream Parker County Peach Festival Weatherford town square
You can get homemade, fresh peach ice cream here only once a year, in mid-July. But it's worth the wait. Parker County church ladies start peeling and stirring and turning the handles of the ice-cream freezers as soon as the first bushel of the county's famous summer sun-ripened peaches are plucked from the trees. For weeks they crank, storing up the fruits of their labor in freezers to be sold on the square during a two-day peach orgy in mid-July that won't come around again for a year. Maybe it's the Texas heat, or the reminder that ice cream used to be a summer treat only, but there's nothing that a Ben and Jerry's or a Marble Slab can offer that even comes close to the church ladies' cold, creamy, peachy goodness melting in your mouth and dripping down your chin. Ahhhhh.
