In the Mexican food realm, tamales are seldom considered a sexy dish. They are the old standby, the filler, the pseudo-entrée overshadowed by more worldly enchiladas and flautas. But even tamales get a gourmet touch at Hot Damn, Tamales! Our favorites are the wild mushroom and goat cheese and the beef tenderloin, beer, and jalapeño tamales. The dining area is small, the atmosphere funky (including high ceilings covered by vintage punched tin plates), and the tamales tasty.
