The restaurant is small, obscure, and a bit woeful on the outside. But diners enjoy some of the best authentic Mexican food in the Metroplex. Hermelinda "Mina" Reyes spent decades working at food plants and factories before saving enough money to offer her brand of cooking to the public. Her first venture was a small trailer taqueria on Northeast 28th Street. She opened Las Pericas in December 1999 and quickly developed a staunch following. The family-operated restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch, and every entrée is splendid, with large portions and fast service. Saturday's $3.99 menudo special is becoming legendary.
