Best Newspaper Columnist Ken Parish-Perkins, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Is tv criticism an art form? It is when practiced by the Star-T's television writer. Some reviewers of tv, movies, and pop music get by on turning flashy, meaningless phrases and reacting reflexively to hype. Not Parish-Perkins, who brings sobriety, intelligence, and social consciousness to writing about a medium that too many people dismiss too easily. In addition to reviewing entertainment programs, he uses his position to discuss racial issues, critique local and national news coverage, and comment on cultural matters. With all this, we can even forgive his not liking The Simpsons.
