Best Place to Enjoy the Water
Burger's Lake
1200 Meandering Dr, FW

Locals have some great and little-known options for enjoying life beside the water. The Point, for example, the little restaurant hidden at the end of Bomber Road beside Carswell, with decent food, a good jukebox, a horseshoe pit, a boat dock, and a grand view of Lake Worth. Or Lake Como Park, one of the few public places where folks can enjoy (but not swim in or eat fish from), the little green gems of water that dot the West Side.

Places to enjoy being in the water -- except for private places and concrete pools -- are a lot tougher to find. There's one, however, that folks have been finding for more than 70 years. Burger's Lake, on the east edge of Carswell, still offers some of the finest splashin' and swimmin' in Tarrant County. From the stone house and water tower (built by a German craftsman nearly a century ago) to the spring-fed lake with its swing, slide, fountains, diving boards, inner tubes, and "beach," to the acres of tree-shade picnic tables and outdoor volleyball courts, the place is still clean, well-kempt, cool, and inviting. Only problem now: It closed Labor Day. Put it on the list for next summer.
