Raver: "Nevermore"
The boarded-up Bank One building, the crystal-clear waters of the Trinity River, that guy in the Stockyards who lets you take a picture with his longhorn -- all amenities that make Fort Worth a very livable place. But even the guy with the longhorn couldn't keep Sam Raver from packing up his pedal board and flying V guitar and relocating to Austin. "I loved the music scene up here, but Austin is just home to me. I just couldn't wait to get back there," said the homesick guitarist. Raver played his last show as an official Fort Worthian Thursday night at the Aardvark with Circle Theory. However, Raver said, he already has plans to revisit Funkytown. "I will be up here April 20 for Circle Theory's final show, then again in early June to record some guitar tracks for a new band called Camino. Plus, I am working on three projects in Austin -- The Love Supreme, Blissfist, and touring with Austin crooner Brian Corley -- so I am sure I will be back up here for shows all the time." Best known for his work with Circle Theory, Raver has also played numerous shows with John Pryce and lent his creative talents to several recording projects. Originally a drummer, Raver began playing the guitar when he attended TCU. Always in touch with its emotions, HearSay is deeply saddened by Raver's move. However, HearSay knows just the way to cheer itself up -- and yes, it does involve a camera and a longhorn.
Head Rush
HearSay is stoked, stoked, that Sobe Adrenaline Rush Presents the Adrenaline Tour Featuring The X-ecutioners is making a stop at Trees on Thursday, and not just because two more mentions of the show will fill this week's word count. No, the exhilaration is partly because HearSay, who would never promo something it didn't swing low on, has spent the morning test-chugging can after can of the fruity-good energy supplement with the motto "Get it up. Keep it up. Any questions?" HearSay plans to keep it up all night long. The X-ecutioners, a DJ crew from New York City, yield to no one in their def turntable techniques. Their second album, Built from Scratch, is not only the bomb, it's generating extremely favorable critical response. The single, "It's Going Down" -- yes, the one with Linkin Park -- charted high on Billboard and played a lot on MTV. So it has to be good. Also on the bill are Oakland-based rap act The Coup, beloved for its political lyrics and Cali-style funk beats; human beatbox Kenny Muhammad; and the Adrenaline Theater Film Festival, which is a pretty dope name for a bunch of extreme-sports clips. Cover is $15, doors open at 8 pm, and HearSay is now goose with its double-deuce juice. |
