Aggressive Christine

Lead vocalist Tiffany Rebstock is a strong frontwoman, but singing in "harmony" with her male bandmates often finds her and her accompanists failing to actually blend as well as they should. Still, she's got kind of a big, round, breasty Jewel sound that can be easy on the ears. It seems to be the perfect vehicle for Aggressive Christine's hook-heavy, dance-friendly melodies. The band was "No Doubt" raised on punk, ska, and surf. Slower tracks ("Pendulum," "Hello's Goodbye's") don't fare as well as the happy-go-lucky, uptempo rockers such as "Party" or the exuberant, poppy "2X2." The guitars of David Stuckler (lead) and David Moran (rhythm) come off best when played at lightning speed, which fortunately happens through much of this disc. Aggressive Christine has two main things on its side: time and potential. This Photograph is an uneven recording, but it still shows that there's some talent around here that is certainly worthy of being cultivated. |
