President Barack Obama said he doesn’t deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. A bunch of Americans agree with him.

After almost 300,000 votes in an MSN.com online poll asking whether he deserved the prize, 62 percent said, “No, he has no significant accomplishments.”

Only 23 percent said, “Yes, he’s changed the tenor and tone of world diplomacy.”

I lean more toward the 13 percent who said, “Perhaps someday, but this award is premature.”

The Nobel committee chairman said Obama has “captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future.”

Is seems odd to give the award to someone who has garnered attention and provided hope but without doing much about it so far.

In June, Obama traveled to Cairo, an Arab capital, and made a captivating speech directed at the Muslim world, inspiring millions of people around the globe and creating hope for a more peaceful coexistence.

But speeches are words waiting to become actions.

The Nobel chairman said the president “has been a key person for important initiatives in the U.N. for nuclear disarmament and to set a completely new agenda for the Muslim world and East-West relations.”

Again it sounds like their awarding him for things they hope he’ll do. Maybe he’ll help smooth relations between the US and the Muslim world and create harmony in the world. Then he can put that prize on his mantle with pride.

  1. The Nobel PP is awarded to those who reflect the leftist committee’s worldview, it is a political statement, and meant to influence worldwide opinion. This was clearly stated when they issued Carter’s.

Actual achievement has nothing to do with it.
