Savvy is back.

Woohoo, the local band from my teen years is rocking again on Monday in Fort Worth!

Oh, wait, old timer in the mirror — there’s a new Savvy in town.

A press release informs me that Savvy is an “international television sensation” and featured on “The Wannabes, Starring Savvy.” It’s a show about six teenagers trying to be pop stars. Never heard of the show or the band, but if you’re younger than 16 I guess you’re pooping your pants in excitement right now.

Savvy will perform for free at 5 p.m. on Monday at the Colonial Country Club.

Anna Maria Perez de Tagle from Disney Channel’s “Camp Rock” will appear with them. Never heard of her either. Sorry, teens aren’t my thang.

Ah, but I remember the first incarnation of Savvy.

Savvy (the rock band) and Savvy’s (the disco bar) were the hottest things in Fort Worth in 1980. The band fizzled after frontman Ricky Lynn Gregg moved to Nashville to become a country star, and the bar flopped after the drinking age was raised to 21 in 1981 and killed the scene. Read all about those glory days in this 2008 cover story.

Or go to Colonial on Monday and start your own Savvy memories.

Meanwhile, Gregg returned to Fort Worth a couple months ago to play the Blackhorse Saloon. Here’s a YouTube clip from that night, with a fiddle player taking the lead break on “Stairway to Heaven.”
