You knew it was over when even Jerry Jones gave up the ghost.

The Dallas Cowboys owner invested millions of dollars and his own sullied reputation as a general manager when he traded the farm to get wide receiver Roy Williams, who’d had ups and downs in the NFL after a great college career at the University of Texas.

In Dallas, the wide receiver turned out to be a great…downfield blocker.

Jones finally cut Williams and another disappointment, running back Marion Barber, in July. The Chicago Bears swooped in, signed Williams, named him their starter, and then nabbed Barber too as a short-yardage stallion.

The Bears thought they could reinvigorate both players. This proves the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, even when our side hasn’t seen rain in 945 days and what little grass remains is a nice crispy brown.

Oh yeah, the Bears wear brown uniforms; now I get it.

So far, the signings appear to resemble something else that’s brown and found in piles.

Barber couldn’t find the end zone despite two tries from the two yard line against the New York Giants. Meanwhile, Williams drops passes just like he did here.
