Defenders of free speech are rallying behind Hank Williams Jr. in his fall-out with ESPN over his Hitler remark. ESPN canned the singer after he dared to utter the word Hitler and Obama in the same sentence.

ESPN has the right of free speech as well, and they’re expressing it loudly by firing Williams for his loutish remark.

Welcome to America.

Williams offered a screw-you apology at first, then a more “sincere” attempt, and now is trying to convince people he pulled his song from ESPN out of principle.

SHUT UP AND SING

The Hitler analogy was over the top, but it was just a cock-eyed opinion from an old outlaw who’s always been slightly deranged. That’s what makes him Hank Jr.

His silly song “Are You Ready” won’t be missed. Monday Night Football will come up with a new intro that’ll be just as good…or just as bad. Hopefully Williams will fade into the mist a bit.

The truth is, political rants, cheesy football intros, and parodying oneself for a buck have always been to the detriment of Williams. He does best when he just sings heartfelt songs. Some of his stuff is country-and-western gold.

  1. Jr.’s theme song was kitschy and fun but got kind of old after a while. The new MNF intro is so stupid and embarrassing, with all of the flashing lights, quick cuts, and hot chicks, I’m ashamed to be a fan of American football.
