People in my office love Wednesdays — it’s Taco Day after another late Tuesday night spent putting out your beloved Fort Worth Weekly.

My egg and sausage taco with a big, gorgeous strip of bacon down the center was really fantastic, even though I was eating it while also writing this blog about PETA’s new anti-meat ad.

Four Texas Tech University students – including two from Dallas – won a recent competition to create the campaign.

The mesmerizing new slogan is (ear muffs!): “You’re Eating Shit.”

Hmmm, well, it’s right in line with PETA’s sensationalistic shock-and-awe method of spreading its message. It’s also the in-yo-face hell-raising approach that college students typically love. Revolution!

Texas Tech professor Carla Tedeschi teaches a “Public and Social Service Design” class, and her students divided into six teams of four and designed vegan ads. The winning team’s ad will be featured this fall as a PETA public service announcement.

The slogan refers to filthy conditions at factory farms and slaughterhouses, where fecal bacteria often makes its way onto meat products.

I applaud the students’ enthusiasm.

But I still enjoyed my taco.

Like my Burleson life guru always says, “What doesn’t kill you… .

  1. Taco Day?! Why didn’t I know about this “tradition?” I’d come in for a taco. After eating them most of my adult life, (and that’s 80 years my friends) I’m not gonna worry now.

  2. And Betty, wouldn’t you feel a greater sense of achievement by living the rest of your life compassionately?
It’s never too late to save a life (or over a hundred per year if you take meat out of your menu). A small sacrifice for such a great achievement, don’t you think?
