Looking over the agenda at this morning’s Fort Worth City Council meeting, I expected some drama.

Several agenda items would prompt a few residents to raise hell, I figured.

Public hearings were scheduled to discuss off-site natural gas drilling at two city parks — Lincolnshire Park and Paz Hernandez Park.

Drilling near parks usually riles up somebody.

But no residents showed up to speak. The council approved both items with 9-0 votes.

A couple of five-year tax abatements were also up for vote, one in the Magnolia Village Neighborhood Empowerment Zone, and one in the Riverside Neighborhood Empowerment Zone. Both abatement proposals would help neighborhoods trying to revitalize themselves, so they weren’t exactly controversial, but abating taxes always pisses off somebody.

Doesn’t it?

Nope.

The council approved both with 9-0 votes.

A public hearing was also set to discuss the city’s annexation of 390 acres as part of the Walsh Ranch development west of town.

But without any public to debate anything, there was nothing to hear.

Other agenda items came and went but by then I had begun daydreaming about Pink Floyd.

Hello,
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home?

  1. The Jeff Prince death curse continues. Two days after you post this blog, and include the Pink Floyd album as the art for this piece, the artist (Storm Thorgerson) who did most of the PF albums, including “Dark Side of the Moon,” passed on. The scrap metal guy better watch out.
