The popular Horseman Club on Bryant-Irvin Road closed its doors last weekend.

The 14,000-square-foot dancehall has been sold to a Houstonian who, according to former Horseman co-owner Ryan Fussell, owns and operates two other dancehalls in Texas and has been in business for more than 25 years. Letting go, Fussell said, “is going to be hard, but it’s going to a good guy. … It’ll be a go-to place, a good, safe place to go enjoy yourself. Since it’s in his hands, I feel good. It’s a place I’ll definitely go to.” With brother Robby and father Doug, Ryan opened the Horseman about a decade ago, replacing the Cheyenne Cattle Company, another dancehall that had been in business for about a decade. Fussell expects the new owner to keep the place closed for a couple of months to do some remodeling. The club, Fussell said, “won’t be gone long. It’ll be something new but the same [honkytonk] concept.” … Be sure to tune in to NBC‘s Chuck on Mon., April 13, to hear “The Earth Has Lost Its Hold” by local faves and multiple, perennial Weekly Music Awards winners Calhoun. The song is one of several that will be featured on the popular action-comedy. Apparently, the show’s music supervisor had heard Calhoun’s eponymous debut when it came out a couple of years ago and began following the band. About a month ago, she contacted Calhoun frontman Tim Locke, asking him for permission to use the song. The band, according to guitarist Jordan Roberts, doesn’t know what it will receive in return other than airplay — bands whose music is used on Chuck are not identified at any time before, during, or after the program. Visit www.myspace.com/calhoun. … Since MTV stopped airing music videos, a band’s getting one of its songs played on national TV, either on a show or commercial, has kind of become the new MTV. Which doesn’t necessarily mean bands have stopped making videos. To wit: This past Monday, Fort Worthian punk-metallists Sky Eats Airplane, who recently signed with Equal Vision Records (Coheed and Cambria, Sick of it All), debuted the video for their new song “Numbers.” As of now, it’s available for viewing only at www.skyeatsairplane.com and YouTube. The band has a new album coming out in July and is currently touring the Pacific Northwest and the Left Coast. … The Toadies are embarking on a major tour this week, starting out in Amarillo and finishing up in mid-June in the freaking U.K. Their only local date is in — of all places — Big D, where they’ll be playing the annual Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival. Why no Fort Worth date? Maybe because a tour isn’t really a tour if you’re just walking out your front door and shuffling down the street. Visit www.thetoadies.com. … Every Saturday at midnight at Ridgmar Movie Tavern (6801 Ridgmar Meadow Rd., 817-563-7469), Rocky Horror Picture Show is screened. However, a version of the 1973 stage production from which the picture show was adapted in the mid-1970s will be performed through Sun., April 5, at University Theatre (Welch & Chestnut sts, Denton, 940-565-2428) by UNT Theatre. Tix are $7.50-10. Visit www.danceandtheatre.unt.edu.
