Two weeks after Woodstock in 1969, there was the Texas International Pop Festival in Lewisville. TexasPopFestival.com, a commemorative web site, has talked the Denton County Transportation Authority into memorializing the event by placing a historical marker at Hebron Station, a train depot under construction near where the festival stage once stood. Funding, however, is inadequate. TexasPopFestival.com is holding a benefit concert on Sun., Jan. 31, from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Flying Pig Roadhouse, 5008 S. Stemmons Fwy., Lake Dallas (940-497-3240). Slated to perform are three local tribute bands to three Texas Pop Festival performers –– Swan Song (Led Zeppelin), Piece of My Heart (Janis Joplin), and Soul Sacrifice (Santana) –– and Fort Worth blues-rocker Johnny Nitzinger. Tickets are $10.

Thanks for posting, Anthony! We had a very successful event! We raised more than enough money to cover the marker AND the plaque!! Watch for details on the dedication ceremony and festivities to come!
