FROM LEFT: ANNA, BROOKE, HANNAH, AND ALI. I THINK.

The second episode of CMT’s Fort Worth reality show Texas Women should’ve been called “Career Day,” since it explored the day jobs of barrel racer Brooke, singer Ali, stock contractor Anna, and party girl Hannah. I felt a real “triumph of the human spirit” vibe as each of the ladies overcame some obstacle.

Squeaky voiced Brooke emerged as something of a Zen master: She took her professional disappointments in stride, and counseled the others to do the same. She participated in a state finals barrel racing contest atop her “diva horse” Casey, who finished in lousy time. Maybe he was blinded by sunshine flashing off the fake emeralds and rhinestones that Brooke and Hannah glued all over the barrels before the event.

Meanwhile, Ali wasn’t nearly the rock of determination I had hailed from Episode One. The aspiring chanteuse took her first single to 95.9 The Ranch and got it played during a mid-afternoon show. DJ Charla Corn invited listeners to call in and voice their opinions. Nobody called. Devastated, Ali declared: “I feel completely defeated. I worked so hard, and I failed.” Later Brooke took Ali to Joe T.’s and consoled her, saying the lack of response was due to poor weekday timing: “You shouldn’t feel bad. People were working. Half the time you can’t even use your phone at work.” Then Brooke and Ali shared a blonde moment as they attempted to do the math and split a $37 bill between them.

Anna drove some of the bucking bulls she’d raised to the Cowtown Coliseum for try-outs. One was a bucking loser, while the other was a huge bucking success. “Good little buckers!” Brooke later squeaked with approval. You get the idea.

Last but definitely least, unemployed Hannah had her own encounter with a stockyard beast, and she was the undisputed victor: Under Anna’s culinary instructions, Hannah skillet-fried a thick steak to a perfect medium rare. That’s my idea of a blue ribbon piece of beef. Well played, Hannah.

  1. More useless dribble. Yes… Lets put up some more pretty people to watch and call it a “reality” show. You have to have the attention span of a 5 year old to watch this crap. Yet they still keep watching and producers keep making it.

  2. I enjoy watching females on tv. However, reality shows are being stretched thin. It’s also hard to watch people who just have money handed to them yet they still cry and moan because lifes hard or something didn’t go accordling to plan. Get a degree get a job stop living offf your parents or wealthy ex husband.
