“I don’t have forgiveness for the triple Trumpers or any of the Trumpers. You did vote for this.”

That was Maren Morris the other day. And as she has done numerous times in the past — she’s pretty outspoken — the Grammy-winning Arlington singer-songwriter turned international popstar did not stop there.

“He is a dementia-ridden, diaper-clad, cornball, ex-TV host, bankrupt to fuck. Look at his stats, actually. Um, Atlantic City?”

I saw these words in an image beneath a glamour shot of her, looking fab as always, then later learned that the quote came from TikTok. I watched her video long enough to confirm that this was no AI trick or fictional clickbait. Maren Morris really did say all this about the president of the United States, 79-year-old 34-count felon Donald J. Trump.

Morris also indeed says that “you” — which we can safely assume are the forenamed Trumpers — “voted for this” and “got bamboozled.”

“And I get it,” she continued. “Fox News is a propaganda machine of Cocomelon brain rot for boomers.”

While I think we are light-years past the efficacy of sick burns like “cornball” to rein in any president, let alone the shambolic sack of rotting deli meat who currently sits at the Resolute Desk resting his eyes and listening deeply, the price of gasoline at the time of this writing is $3.49 a gallon, about a 20% increase from the end of February, when America and Israel had yet to bomb Iran. Now, two weeks later and four days after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced “this is only the beginning” of the war, Iran has effectively closed off the Strait of Hormuz, thereby shutting off one-fifth of the world’s energy supply. Is that what you wanted, MAGA? Is a new war in Western Asia making America great? Is the sudden spike in fuel prices making your lives better?

I know the answer to that, because you have to buy the same gas that I do. Surely, you didn’t vote for that.

Does it matter for a person of Maren Morris’ public stature (multiplatinum Grammy winner with 1.5 million IG followers and 11 million-plus monthly Spotify listens) to tell Trump voters anything they don’t want to hear, never mind blaming them for the state of the world? I doubt it. I guess it feels good to vent, but I’ve been led to believe that it was libruls’ contempt for the people who would eventually press the button for Trump that ushered him into office in the first place. Telling them “you voted for this” just seems kind of alienating at this point, though pushing back against or trolling MAGA should be an Olympic sport. (“And the gold goes to … Gavin Newsom!”) They were the ones who voted these villains into power, and like anybody else in a tight rhetorical spot, MAGA likely don’t want to admit they were wrong. But c’mon. Who would vote for the cost of living to go up and for jobs to be lost?

Morris’ assertion that Trump voters were bamboozled is the relevant part of her diatribe. I get that nobody wants to think of themselves as a mark, but y’all did get conned. For a decade, that man has told you “believe me,” and you have, dutifully, about so many things that were very obviously lies. But I’m telling you, Maren Morris is telling you, everyone outside of your weird MAGA-cult bubble has been telling you: Donald Trump played you, and you’re going to suffer just like the rest of us. It might make you feel triumphant to see ICE and CBP agents pile onto some abuelo in Los Angeles or murder protestors in Minneapolis. It might make you feel safe and strong to see a foreign city turned to burning rubble by American and Israeli missiles. It might make you feel invigorated that some U.S. military commanders are framing this war as necessary to hasten the End Times. But you still have to pay the same prices for gas and groceries that I do, and those are getting more expensive every day. And wages are going nowhere.

I don’t have kids, so I will not experience a son or daughter having to fight the Epstein War. But what about you? What about your kids? You may have voted for horrible things to happen to the people you hate (Sunday school note: Jesus didn’t hate anyone, though those “money changers” sure did piss him off), but I bet you didn’t vote to have your kids sent to fight another war for oil and to keep the president of the free world from rotting in a prison cell for his deep relationship and personal bond with the world’s most notorious pedophile.

I think it’s ugly and shameful that you voted for some awful people with awful intentions, but they clearly aimed a successful pitch at your loudest grievances, and I don’t blame you for falling for it, even if the pitch sold you zip, because some salespeople are just that good, I suppose. Did you get what you thought you were getting? Because your vote for Trump and his down-ballot bootlickers doesn’t get you a discount at the pump or the checkout line, only the same inflationary prices that I and everyone else have to pay. Your vote for him won’t protect your job any more than it will protect your family, but it did put mobs of masked, armed, and unhinged federal agents in places that were perfectly fine without them. Your vote hasn’t made the cost of living go down, but it has allowed the U.S. government to spend about a billion dollars a day to bomb a desert country on the other side of the globe. I know you didn’t vote for whomever fired the Tomahawk missile that obliterated a school and the lives of more than 160 civilians inside — most of them young girls — but your vote made it possible, and if you think killing 100-plus schoolgirls with a missile strike is bad, well, your president thinks you’re a fool or, worse, NOT A PATRIOT.

The fact is that you, like Maren Morris and me and everyone else who is not Donald Trump, are nothing but collateral, to be used, discarded, and folded into the MAGA narrative however he sees fit. I don’t blame you for getting bamboozled, and I don’t even blame you for complaining about it. But know that you have more in common with me and even Maren Morris than you do with the ghouls running our government. It’s time you MAGA diehards accept that you are in the same shit as the rest of us and that the Trump regime is only going to keep piling it on our heads until he’s gone.
