Mother Nature An Expensive Date

A fifth day of paralyzed airports in Europe prompted the director of an airport operators association to compare the economic fallout to that of 9/11.

Airports over there are losing an estimated $200 million a day because of the volcanic ash spewing out of Iceland — not counting the billions lost in economic impact from travelers.

Mother Nature didn’t stop there. She rained out Texas Motor Speedway races over the weekend, forcing TMS prez Eddie Gossage to reschedule the races for today.

Additional labor expenses will cost the track $15,000 an hour to keep the gates open throughout the day, Gossage said.
