Coach Gary Patterson leads TCU out at Cowboys Stadium, Sat.

The last time TCU played in the Cowboys Classic, it was the beginning of an undefeated season. Fans of the Horned Frogs must be hoping that this year’s game will be a good omen, though they’ll probably take more hope from the fact that quarterback Casey Pachall has returned to the team after leaving last year to address substance abuse issues. Interestingly, Coach Gary Patterson still hasn’t officially named Pachall his starter as of this writing. This might be merely a smokescreen, or it might mean that last year’s fill-in quarterback Trevone Boykin will be playing some role in the offense.

Ranked 20th in the pre-season polls, the Horned Frogs will have their work cut out for them against 12th-ranked Louisiana State University, which has a formidable defense led by defensive tackle Anthony Johnson and safety Craig Loston. Meanwhile, TCU will be missing havoc-causing defensive end Devonte Fields, serving the first half of a two-game suspension. As the college football season kicks off (the last one under the unloved BCS system), fans across the nation will be following this clash at the recently renamed AT&T Stadium.
