Run the Jewels headlines Fortress Fest, Sat-Sun.

Tired of going to music festivals in the middle of nowhere when the temperature’s in triple digits? Well, the inaugural Fortress Festival is here to provide you with relief. Instead of being held in the stifling heat of summer, Fort Worth’s new music festival lands early in the year when the weather is (we hope) still relatively endurable. Instead of being located miles from urban amenities, the festival is taking place in the heart of the city’s Cultural District, so you can take public transportation to the event and partake of a proper meal or check out the art museums while you’re there.

Best of all, the fest is organized by the same management team that raised the Lone Star Film Festival to such heights. The programmers have got in stellar acts like hip-hop supergroup Run the Jewels, Edmonton electronic music duo Purity Ring, L.A. polymath Flying Lotus, and SURVIVE (the duo who composed the music for TV’s Stranger Things) as well as local acts such as Quaker City Night Hawks and Burning Hotels. For all you Texans who like things big, this music festival is swinging for the fences its first time out. This might become a fixture on the landscape. It’s sure to be memorable.

Fortress Festival runs Sat-Sun at various venues in the Cultural District, FW. Wristbands are $65-145. Call 888-454-4353.
