Bleachers is part of Dark Circles Contemporary Dance’s concert.

Dark Circles Contemporary Dance returns for its Spring Series and a couple of world premieres. Choreographer and company founder Joshua L. Peugh is responsible for both new creations we’ll be seeing this weekend. One is Halt!, a piece inspired by the sport of fencing, which features masked dancers expressing the human desire to find one another’s individual selves. The other one is Bleachers, a gay coming-of-age story set during the late 1990s (set to songs from the period) that focuses on the lack of sex education given to young LGBT men.

Rounding out the program is Gregory Dolbashian’s hip-hop-influenced Evermore, which, unusually, sports a musical score that was written by its choreographer. Fort Worth isn’t the hottest spot when it comes to contemporary dance, so having this troupe in our backyard is a great boon for our cultural scene, and any performance of theirs is sure to be an event.

Dark Circles Contemporary Dance runs Fri-Sun at TCU, Lowe Hall, 3000 S University Dr, FW. Tickets are $15-25. Call 575-993-3584.
