In last night’s elections, Democrats performed well across the nation, including the Dem here in Tarrant County.
Though the race to fill the vacant District 9 state Senate seat is headed to a runoff (because no candidate received 50% of the vote), Democrat Air Force veteran and union leader Taylor Rehmet received thousands more votes than Republican Leigh Wambsganss and another Republican, John Huffman, in the historically conservative area that encompasses Northeast Tarrant County, including much of Fort Worth.
A date for the runoff election will be set by Gov. Greg Abbott.
Conversely, all 17 statewide constitutional amendments passed, including ones favoring the wealthy and otherwise contributing to Texas’ mission to continue lurching far rightward.
Nationally, Democrats Abigail Spanberger became governor of Virginia, Zorhan Mamdani mayor of New York City, and Mikie Sherrill governor of New Jersey.
The Democratic majority on Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court was also preserved, while in California, Prop 50 will lead to more Democratic seats in Congress. Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed the measure to combat unheard-of midcycle redistricting in Texas.
“We, the People, don’t want masked and armed Gestapo thugs terrorizing our neighborhoods and teargassing our children,” recently wrote liberal commentator Jeff Tiedrich. “We, the People, don’t want incoherent economic policies that send prices ever upwards. We, the People, don’t want a broken government that works only for billionaires. We, the People, don’t want an unhinged and deteriorating 34-count narcoleptic fart factory ruling over us. Yesterday’s election results made that clear. President Pudding Cup wasn’t on the ballot, but yesterday’s election was a referendum on his presidency — and the results were not pretty for him.”
