Three musicals have occupied Bass Performance Hall (525 Commerce St, Fort Worth, 817-212-4280) this summer — Hadestown, The Notebook, and now Hamilton — and they’re all marquee productions. Hamilton, I’m sure you already know about, and for good reason. It’s an amazing show with catchy hip-hop/R&B songs and a sneaky history lesson. “Immigrants — we get the job done.” Kudos to Bass Hall for bringing this multiple-Tony-winner to the Fort again at this point in time. The production runs for two weeks (today thru Sun, Jul 26), with tickets starting at $69. — Anthony Mariani

Perhaps best known for playing Uncle Ryan on Everybody Hates Chris, actor/comedian Tony Rock, Chris Rock’s younger brother, is on a stand-up tour. Scout Bookshop is celebrating Summerween with a screening of 1998’s Practical Magic starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock at the Fairmount Community Garden (504 5th Av, Fort Worth, 604-904-5031) when the sun goes down. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from El Salchichón FW (gourmet, Mexican street-style hot dogs and tacos), Leo’s Churro Bar, and Ostara Coffee Roasters starting at 8pm, then the movie kicks off at 9pm. Scout’s Silent Book Club meeting for August will focus on the Alice Hoffman novel of the same name which inspired the film, and this free screening will launch the event. There is no cost to attend.

The Love Texas Art Foundation has announced the artists selected for the 2026 Texas Juried Exhibition, one of the state’s premier exhibitions celebrating the excellence of contemporary Texas art. The 2026 exhibition showcases 40 artists from more than 2,400 submissions by 725 artists across Texas, reflecting the depth and diversity of contemporary art throughout the state. Chosen artists include Nancy Lamb and Sage Elwell of Fort Worth and TCU graduate Freddy Ortega. In total, there are nearly 25 artists from North Texas. The exhibition will be on view at Artspace111 (111 Hampton St, Fort Worth, 817-692-3228) thru Sat, Aug 29. This year, $20,000 in prizes will be awarded, including the Edmund Craig Memorial First Prize (a $10,000 cash award) and the opportunity for the recipient to present a solo exhibit or be part of a group show in 2027. Prize winners will be announced at 5pm Saturday during the opening reception from 4pm to 6pm.
