Friday Night (High-)Lights

On Fri, Oct 2, in South Main Village at The Cicada (1002 S Main St, Fort Worth, @The_Cicada_FTW), Nightshade Burlesque will serve up its annual spooktacular showcase of sexy, sassy Halloween thrills and chills. Onyx Fury, Xio Nova, Violent Lavender, Fairy Despair, Bela Von Gosi, Charlotte Rouge, Vivienne Vermouth, Chordella Smash, and Death Pixztix will strut their scary-good glamulousness across the Cicada stage in a stunning display of tantalizing terror and Halloween-y hijinks. This thing sells out fast —VIP seats are already gone — but a $20 GA ticket (via NightshadeBurlesque.com) will grant you entrance to this den of hilarious, high-kicking Halloween iniquity. Day-of-show cover is $30, 21+, doors at 7pm, show at 9pm.

Also on Friday, Magnolia Motor Lounge (3803 Southwest Blvd, Fort Worth, 817-332-3344) hosts Fort Worth singer-songwriter, world-wanderer, and great-mysteries ponderer Keegan McInroe, with Austin folk singer Anna La Mare opening the show. If you love a good story, both performers will suck you in. Doors are at 7pm, and Anna La Mare starts at 9. Cover is $15 at the door, and the show is 21+.

There’s also a dance party at Tulips FTW (112 St. Louis Av, Fort Worth, 817-367-9798) on Friday, if burlesque or troubadours are not your thing. Called Club Slayyy: A Slayyyter and Hyperpop Party, What the Dance Presents is putting on the “WOR$T PARTY IN FORT WORTH,” they say, featuring Kidd Luna spinning Slayyyter, Charli XCX, Sophie, and more. Looking up this playlist is going to rattle my Spotify algorithm, but the green dot has been pushing these hits on me for a while anyway. Why even push back anymore? General admission to this 18+ event is $26.34 online. It starts at 9pm.

Saturday Afternoon Browsecore

The Rock ’n Roll Rummage Sale is back at the South Main Village MicroPark and parking lot adjacent to Tinies (113 S Main St, Fort Worth) on Sat, Oct 3, from noon to 5pm. Raucous F-Dub indie-rockers Meach Pango will headline at 4, preceded by alt-rockers Darstar at 2:30pm, and Wichita Falls’ Tiny Joy at 1pm. It’s a great opportunity for under-21s to get their ears burned a little while you drag them along on your booth-browsing quest. Free, all-ages, noon-5pm.

The Saturday Scaries

Spawns of darkness, rejoice. Danse Macabre draws nigh! DJs La Bruja and Gabe Mendoza will summon the spirits of Halloween at the Double Wide (3510 Commerce St, Dallas, 469-872-0191, @DoubleWide_Dallas) on Sat, Oct 3, kicking off the season with Arcadia Presents: Danse Macabre, their annual ritual of goth, darkwave, industrial, post-punk, and everything else that “goes boom in the night.” No cover, 21+, starts at 9pm.

Not feeling the Saturday night drive home from Dallas? Stay in Fort Worth, but get out of the house and catch Luna and Friends’ cumbia night at The Down ’n Out (150 W Rosedale St, Fort Worth, @TheDownnOutBar). Pretty much the best party on the Near Southside. No cover, 21+, roll in around 9pm.

Born Cursed? The First Tuesday of the Month Is for You!

Whatever you’re doomed with, the Boiled Owl Tavern (909 W Magnolia Av, Fort Worth, @TheBoiledOwlTavern), via a mysterious entity known as Night Owl, is showcasing various forms of high-decibel, psychic exorcism the first Tuesday of every month. Born Cursed features local artists and bands that skew toward the ear-scorching end of the pop-music spectrum. The first one of these, in September, offered industrial-gothcore project Digimechanoid and sludge-metal clowns Channel Planet. The next Born Cursed is on Tue, Oct 2, putting the Stooge-a-riffic meltdowns of Love Cuts, Heavy Petal’s seething punk ’n’ roll, and local psych-punks LABELS in between your melting face and a green sectional couch. No cover, 21+, starts at 9pm.
