Thanks to Spotify’s Halloween Punk Rock Party playlist, I have heard the Misfits’ “Halloween” at least 100 times this month, which really means that the 1981 single has been howling in my head nonstop for the past three weeks, more or less from the time I wake up until the time I fall asleep. Does the band’s “Dream Lover” take over once I’ve drifted over the border into the subconscious realm? No, it does not. It does not take over, because I REMEMBER HALLOWEEN! When trash day rolls around every Wednesday, do I remember to put the cans out before the truck comes rumbling by? Not always, but I REMEMBER HALLOWEEN! Do I know who’s in the World Series this year or where I set my car keys down last night or the name of the actress who played Nancy’s mom in A Nightmare on Elm Street? Not really, but I REMEMBER HALLOWEEN!
Anyway, here’s a rundown of some spooktacular holiday celebrations that feature live music. Get your costume together and party with some bands! And also, is that song in your head now, too? Are you sure it’s not? Go on, queue it up, I dare you!
So, in the spirit of that tune, I’m-a sing some show listings for you.

Also on Fri, Oct 30, is Scary Mantis II: A Halloween House Show. Arlington-based indie-pop band Cherry Mantis is throwing their second Halloween bash, this time in Fort Worth, at an address you have to DM them for (@cherry_mantis) because it’s a house show, duh. Along with Cherry Mantis, the lineup includes the Plum Boys, Tobias Lund, Crash Through the Floor, and Yasmeen. Cover is $8, bands start at 8pm, and a costume is required for entry. Nice to see Yasmeen on a bill. I feel like it’s been a while.
Tulips FTW (112 St. Louis Av, Fort Worth, 817-367-9798) is celebrating one of cinema’s most iconic dance club scenes on Friday, with its Blade Rave. Not sure if the venue plans on spraying fake blood on the crowd, but aspiring vampires will not want to miss this party. Normies can come, too, as long as they leave the garlic at home and agree to submit to the throbbing pulse of techno. Daywalkers are welcome (but keep your swords to yourselves), as are the 18+ crowd. Cover is $26.84, and doors are at 9pm.
Tarantula Tiki Lounge (117 S Main St, Fort Worth) is throwing their annual Halloween party in the loading dock behind their patio with a vendor market, an outdoor bar, and a three-band lineup on Friday starting at 7pm with heavy shoegazers Como La Flor, followed by techno-punks Digimechanoid at 8pm, and swingin’ surf rockers Go-Go Rillas at 9pm. Free, 21+.
Also on Friday, The Post (2736 W 6th St, Fort Worth, 817-945-8890) offers McInroe, Furr & Fiends Present: A Murder Ballad Halloween. Featuring Fort Worth singer-songwriters Keegan McInroe, Jacob Furr, Simon Flory, Ginny Mac, Cameron Smith, Taylor LaCourse, Lorena Leigh, and Reagan James, the show promises to deliver plenty of rootsy ballads of woe and whoa, and there’s also a costume contest. Doors are at 8, 21+, cover is $10.
