From out of left field, seriously, comes the No Idea Festival, an annual multi-city avant-garde music event featuring musicians from all over the world. After a few days in San Antonio, the festival reaches Lola’s Saloon Sixth (2736 W. 6th St., 817-877-0666) on Tue., Feb. 24, before heading off to Austin, Houston, and New Orleans. No two lineups are the same. Headlining at Lola’s is “guitarist” Annette Krebs – “guitarist” because there’s nothing traditional about Krebs’ approach to the instrument.

Part of a group of young Berlin musicians who gained traction in the late 1990s, Krebs lays her guitar out piano-style and with various “picks” crafts sonicscapes that may make you think you’re listening to a synthesizer played by an alien. The classically trained Krebs will open the first of three sets by playing a short solo piece followed by an improvised collaboration with Mike Maxwell (electronics, kalimba) and Sarah Alexander (voice, electronics). Set two will showcase Austin percussionist Jason Kahn and Zurich-based electronicist Chris Cogburn along with Zanzibar Snails’ Michael Chamy and Nevada Hill. Set three: Dallas’ Gonzalez family – father Dennis and sons Aaron and Stefan – plus Japanese-born percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani. Admission is $10. Doors open at 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.noideafestival.com. … Thanks to Spune Productions, local booking and production agency, we’ve got two free tickets to give away to two mondo shows at the Longhorn (121 W. Magnolia Ave., 817-420-9455). On Sat., Feb. 21, TGS’ current installation is pretty killer, with performances by Salim Nourallah, the Old 97’s-y the cut*off, and the haunting and old-timey but raucous Whiskey Folk Ramblers.
