Only in the early stages of a Major League Baseball season can local fans say something like, “The undefeated Texas Rangers are sailing toward the World Series!”
But it’s true for now: The Rangers (1-0) are undefeated, in first place, and closer to a World Series berth than half the teams in MLB.
Can we stop the season right now?
Of course, not everyone is certain that the Rangers are World Series bound. Oddsmakers give the team an embarrassing 25-1 shot at winning the Series.
The same oddsmakers would probably give 25-1 odds that a giant meteor will strike the Earth during Game 7 of the World Series and end civilization as we know it.
