Charity events are rarely as interactive as the fourth annual Cowtown Cranksgiving Ride, which begins 3pm tomorrow (Sat Nov 16) at Trinity Bicycles, 343 Throckmorton St, FW. The national event, designed to stock the shelves of local food pantries in time for the Thanksgiving holidays, is a combo urban bike ride and scavenger hunt. Participants need to bring their own bike, natch, but also a lock, a bag large enough to carry groceries, and about $15-$20 to purchase foodstuffs that the Tarrant Area Food Bank needs. Once you arrive at Trinity, you’ll be given a list of grocery store addresses and itemized purchases. You can’t move on to the next phase of the Cranksgiving Ride until you get a store receipt to indicate you’ve bought the edibles on your list. Saturday’s weather forecast –– close to 80, partly sunny, with a constant cool breeze –– makes it perfect for getting some exercise while you help out neighbors hit hard by the rocky economy.
