It’s an exciting time to be a craft beer enthusiast in Fort Worth. I spend the better part of my free time checking out new brewpubs and tasting events, but, admittedly, it’s getting hard to keep up. That’s why I’m going to tie together my passion for reporting with my love of craft beer (and the people who make it) for a weekly blog that will explore not only new, locally made ales and stouts, but everything from our city’s brewing history to the brewers and beer reps who keep our stores stocked with the choicest suds. One week I may explore what makes sours so tantalizingly tart or get some expert advice how to improve your home brewing system. Anything and everything is open for exploration, and it’ll be 99.9 percent local.

Craft beer fans are some of the smartest, most informed social drinkers out there, so I’m not going to dumb down the conversation. Whether you are a newbie fan or an avid home brewer, I’ll make sure you learn something new while having fun. As my friend and beer expert Tony Drewry says: It’s not a fad, and it’s not scene — it’s a movement. And in the spirit of that movement, you won’t read any derogatory comments here. Well, I may call out a multi-national corporation for taking cheap shots at craft beer consumers during a Super Bowl ad, though. I’m only human.

I don’t know how to run a brewery, and I’m not pretending to be the sole expert on craft beer here. That’s why my articles will be full of quotes and insight from the people who do this job day in and day out.

And finally, I’m going to end each blog with a listing of local, craft beer-related events (something that’s been missing locally). I have to limit each listing to a handful a week, but rest assured, I’ll make sure each venue gets equal exposure on fwweekly.com.

To quote another popular craft beer motto: A rising tide floats all boats. I’m excited to see the Fort Worth Weekly become a permanent fixture in that tide. To have your business considered for the events listing, please e-mail the details at least two weeks in advance to Edward@fwweekly.com. And, if you work anywhere in the local craft beer industry, or just want to give feedback, please reach out and say hello. You may end up featured in an upcoming story.

Cheers,

Edward Brown

On Tap This Week:

This Saturday, visit Trinity River Tap-House (formerly The Pour House) for a music series with no cover called Hand-Picked at TRTH. The concert will feature local band Un Chien and Denton-based pych rockers Criminal Birds. While you’re there, you’ll have no shortage of choices with 75 craft beers on tap.

The Bearded Lady is tapping a Rahr Hatch Chili Blonde Firkin July 22nd. Speaking of Bearded Lady, this fine, independently owned establishment just celebrated its second year. Tell them happy birthday if you stop by.

On tap for next week is an interview with Craig Mycoskie, head brewer at Rahr and Sons Brewing Co. I’m going to ask him about the recent release of Rahr’s Visionary Brew , a collaboration Weekly does with Rahr every year. Besides discussing why he chose a smoked porter for this year’s Visionary Brew, I want to ask him how the heck you smoke a beer.

  1. Fort Worth without a doubt brews the best beer anywhere. Pabst Blue Ribbon, Lone Star and Miller High Life are the top 3 beers you can buy and they are all brewed in out beloved Cowtown.

    Pop A Top Again.
I think I’ll have another round
    Another one my friends ….
