Sundance Square invites you to the fourth annual Catrina Contest, happening this Saturday, November 1, as part of the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Festival. Now a staple of Fort Worth’s fall events, this free, family-friendly celebration will take place in Sundance Square Plaza from noon to 10pm.

At the core of Sundance Square’s Día de los Muertos Festival is its signature event, the 2025 Catrina Contest. This tradition showcases the artistry and spirit of the season, allowing contestants to interpret La Catrina through vibrant colors, craftsmanship, and creativity, while honoring loved ones and celebrating themes of life, remembrance, and renewal.

Contestants will bring the Catrina tradition to life with stunning costumes and artistic displays that reflect Fort Worth’s diverse cultural heritage and global influence. Families can enjoy the Mini Catrina Contest for children 12 and under on the Plaza Stage at 2 pm, followed by the Adult Catrina Costume Contest at 5pm. The festivities will culminate in the evening with a breathtaking fireworks display that illuminates Sundance Square and concludes this colorful fall tradition.

This year’s celebration coincides with Sundance Square’s beloved First Saturdays event series. In addition to live music and dance performances throughout the day, guests can explore over 80 artisan vendors and food trucks offering a variety of Fort Worth favorites — from tacos de trompo and empanadas to arepas and churros. The Plaza stage will feature performances by Ballet Folklórico de Fort Worth, Mariachi Real De Alvarez, Havana NRG, Grupo Pakal, and Fusion Latina.

Now in its fourth year, the Sundance Square Catrina Contest has become one of Fort Worth’s cherished fall traditions. It is part of Sundance Square’s expanding array of signature cultural programs, which also includes Texas’ largest New Year’s Eve countdown celebration, the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Winter Wonderland Weekends, the Car & Culture Show, and the Fort Worth Art Fair — all of which attract thousands to the Plaza each month.
