In honor of the legendary Dolly Parton, who died on Tuesday, AMC Theatres is bringing back two of her iconic films. Steel Magnolias and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas will screen at select North Texas locations thru Wed, Sep 2, including a few near the Fort.

When a TV preacher targets a local brothel as “the Devil’s Playhouse,” it’s up to the town sheriff — and frequent patron — to save it. The classic 1982 film version of the Broadway smash boasts a star-studded cast that includes the wily Burt Reynolds, a hilarious Dom Deluise, and the incomparable Dolly Parton, who sings a bevy of unforgettable songs, making this the ultimate downhome musical. It even features the timeless ballad “I Will Always Love You.”
Steel Magnolias
In the 1989 film adaptation of a popular play, a wedding is about to take place in the fictional town of Chinquapin, Louisiana. The bride is Shelby (Julia Roberts), a headstrong young beauty whose iron-willed mother, M’Lynn (Sally Field), would do anything for her. Giant-haired Dolly Parton is Truvy, the owner of the beauty parlor that serves as the town’s unofficial hub. Dropping in to exchange gossip are Ouiser (Shirley MacLaine), the richest and meanest woman in town; and Clairee (Olympia Dukakis), an elegant widow with a sly delivery. The wacky new girl, Annelle (Daryl Hannah), a gawky trainee with cat-woman glasses and a mysterious past, further enlivens the atmosphere. These six “steel magnolias” huddle together and provide one another with strength, friendship, and an audience for one another’s jokes as they negotiate the ups and downs of life and love in a small Southern town.
