Got this notice from my friend Patrick Patey, spokesman for the Red Cross in the Metroplex. It seems awfully early to be on us, but I guess times are hard so those red kettles are coming out early.
The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign to Get Underway

WHAT:
The Salvation Army’s red kettle campaign will be at up to 500 locations in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, and Ellis Counties. Many of these locations start well before Thanksgiving.

The organization is working to secure more companies and churches to volunteer for full days this year. For their first time to participate, First Baptist Church of Arlington has stepped up to cover a red kettle site for 30 consecutive days. One group covers the entire season each year – six days a week for six weeks.

Money raised in the red kettles provides operating revenue for 14 Salvation Army centers across the Metroplex. While many people assume the funds are used only at Thanksgiving and Christmas time, money raised in the red kettles is stretched as far into the year as possible to fund year-round operations.

WHEN:
Friday, November 5 through Christmas Eve
10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

WHERE:
Examples include approximately 76 Kroger stores, 86 Wal-Mart stores, 20 Sam’s Clubs, 103 Walgreens locations, 18 Hobby Lobby stores, several area shopping malls and a variety of other retail outlets.
