NBC5′s Mike Snyder Demoted

A year ago TV critic Ed Bark suggested Thomas Ehlmann at NBC5 needed to “make his mark” when he took over as the local station’s new boss in August. Bark further suggested in this “Uncle Barky’s Bytes” blog site that Ehlmann should “shake up the featured news anchor team of Mike Snyder and Jane McGarry…They’ve had a long tenure together, but the ratings meter hasn’t been moving in the right direction for a while.”

Then, on May 17, Uncle Barky quoted unnamed sources saying that Snyder had been given an ultimatum – take a 50 percent pay cut and lose the 10 pm news slot, or take a buyout and get lost. Snyder didn’t like either option.

So what was that sniveling sound coming out of Channel 5 news anchor Jane McGarry last night while Snyder was announcing his diminished role in the news team?

Here’s an example of Snyder’s finest work.

It’s way past time Mike Snyder and Jane McGarry were replaced. I am not trying to be mean but they are just out of touch. They both have no Charisma. The ratings would improve if you get someone with just a bit of cool about them.

I don’t understand why Channel 5 is a Fort Worth station and they report so many Dallas stories. Channel 8 does a better job than Channel 5 reporting on Fort Worth stories.

Fort Worth is where rednecks live…sorry we don’t report about rednecks and could care less about their goings-on.

    Holly,
With such a bitter and prejudiced outlook, it’s a good thing you aren’t reporting on FW. May save you some embarrassment if you shut your hole.

Dallas has more bridges and therefore more trolls

News is not the important factor. Advertising dollars are what drives these “newscasts” these days. Sometimes a newscast will contain far more feature junk than actual news. Mike and Jane are an old couple in todays market where you never know who might show up as a news reader. Look at the new girl over at 11. If I hear her patronizing voice one more time, but then there’s Newby doing sports on 5. He edged out Scott Murray, never one of my faves, but MAN do I miss him now. Budgets are tight, revenue is down, they’re all looking at numbers only, make no mistake. If the numbers falter, it’s gone. I will have to give channel 5 kudos in one area however. I’ve never known a station to waste so much time with those restaurant feature stories. You have to know these restaurants are paying for these 4 minute commercials fronted either by some girl whose name escapes me or some equally forgetable guy with the alledged last name of Chippendale. And these are presented INSIDE the newscasts, led in by the anchor d’jour. Hope the revenue for these is huge, because some of us find this sort of thing insulting.

A little birdy tells me that news anchor Mike Snyder’s 10 p.m. slot will be filled by the younger and more charismatic news anchor Brian Curtis, who currently handles the 4 p.m. news slot.

“He’s a solid reporter and that will make him a good anchor,” the birdy said. “He deserves it.”

Yeah, those dips over at channel 8 have SOOOOOO much more charisma!!!!! You could replace those two with mannequins and not notice the difference. Changing out Mike Snyder is like changing an ice cube on an iceberg. Maybe Uncle B should be managing channel 5 since he’s SOOOOOO knowledgeable about TV news. I’m sure channel 5 management staff is anxiously awaiting the NEXT great idea from Uncle Douchebag.

HAVE BEEN WATCHING JANE AND MIKE FOREVER. ONE WITHOUT THE OTHER IS UNTHINKABLE…BRIAN CURTIS GIVES ME THE CREEPS . A LITTLE TOO CUTE. BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO WTH A 15 MINUTE NEWSCAST WHEN 12 MINUTES OF IT IS COMMERCIALS. …. WILL JUST HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER NEWS CHANNEL I GUESS.

Mike Snyder is an a’hole and so is Jane. I worked with them both in the late 90’s at KXAS. They were out of touch then. Channel 8 is no better, Dale is a dooshbag and Gloria is a monster at best. You can’t age in TV. Why these pricks have been allowed to work as long as they have is beyond me. One down, three more to go. And Brian is gay, in case you can’t tell…make that four to go. Better yet just stop with local broadcasts. They’re not needed anymore.
