A year ago TV critic Ed Bark suggested Thomas Ehlmann at NBC5 needed to “make his mark” when he took over as the local station’s new boss in August. Bark further suggested in this “Uncle Barky’s Bytes” blog site that Ehlmann should “shake up the featured news anchor team of Mike Snyder and Jane McGarry…They’ve had a long tenure together, but the ratings meter hasn’t been moving in the right direction for a while.”
Then, on May 17, Uncle Barky quoted unnamed sources saying that Snyder had been given an ultimatum – take a 50 percent pay cut and lose the 10 pm news slot, or take a buyout and get lost. Snyder didn’t like either option.
So what was that sniveling sound coming out of Channel 5 news anchor Jane McGarry last night while Snyder was announcing his diminished role in the news team?
Here’s an example of Snyder’s finest work.
