Spike Lee and “Good Hair”

When I was watching Good Hair, I was disappointed that the filmmakers didn’t use this clip from Spike Lee’s 1990 collegiate musical School Daze, with the straight-haired girls facing off against the nappy-haired ones in a dance number. Check out the 1990 hairstyles:

The music is by Lee’s musician father Bill Lee, which explains the big-band sound of this song, as opposed to the other songs in the movie, which were done up in the R&B style that was current at the time.
