The fall edition of Arts Goggle happens tomorrow (Saturday, October 2) 4-10pm in different locations across the Near Southside. It’s a burgeoning arts festival to make the city proud, in which the work of local visual artists and musicians is intimately showcased in theaters, salons, pubs, restaurants, offices, and other unlikely neighborhood venues. Saturday’s weather forecast predicts great temps for meandering.

Sunday (October 3) brings a 2-6pm parade and block party on South Jennings to kick off Tarrant County Gay Pride Week. There’s a lot to be proud of locally, including domestic partnership benefits for LGBT city employees that were approved as part of the recent Fort Worth municipal budget. At the risk of being a Debbie Downer, though, I hear everyone talking about the same national news story — the horrific suicides of four persecuted, probably gay teenagers across the country in the last three weeks. But their homophobic tormentors are part of a generation that’s totally cool with being gay, right? Well, maybe not. It seems we’ve still got a shitload of work to do.
