One of my favorite Fort Worth bands of all time, one that I wish would churn out more CDs and play more shows, JJ & The Rogues are participating in a mega-band-battle sponsored by Shure music equipment and Red Gorilla Music Festival (a.k.a. the anti-SXSW). On Wed., Jan. 26, at Emo’s in Austin, the early-Elvis-Costello-y quartet will face off in a regional battle against two Austin bands: Of Forgotten Dreams and The Pulse Electric. The winning band will compete against six other regional winners for the grand prize of $10,000 in Shure gear and a spot on the 2011 Red Gorilla Music Fest in Austin during South-by (March 16-19). As you may recall reading in HearSay not too long ago, JJ & The Rogues are currently in the studio recording their follow-up to Indifference, their 2009 debut EP. The new recording, the four-track EP Stare Down, should be out any day now. You can still download Indifference for free at http://jjandtherogues.bandcamp.com/.
