ESPN was first to report that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will miss the rest of the season with a back injury, and now other media (hello!) are echoing the scoop.

Romo gutted out a physically painful game yesterday and figured out a way to beat the Washington Redskins and keep the playoff (pipe)dream alive. He displayed heroism and guts.

Now he’s by all reports a goner, which might be a good thing.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been preparing for Romo. Maybe backup Kyle Orton will confuse them. Maybe the offense will be inspired by Romo’s gutsiness.

Orton has won some big  games in his career. DeMarco Murray is running strong. Maybe this is Orton’s time to be Mr. December. Maybe the defense can man up… .

Now who’s having a pipedream?

Coach Jason Garrett and the Cowboys haven’t ruled out Romo officially. Maybe the power of prayer (and needles) will resurrect him.

That’s a lot of maybes.
