Mamma Mia! continues its run at Casa Mañana.

Wednesday 06 – If you’re interested in the Mamma Mia sequel that’s coming to movie theaters next month, you can get yourself in the mood by catching Casa Mañana’s production of Mamma Mia!. Thursday 07 – This year marks the 10th anniversary of JT Habersaat creating the Altercation Punk Comedy Tour. Tonight, the New York native who now calls Austin home (with a new novel coming out this year) takes the stage at MASS to showcase his punk-rock comedy stylings, with local comic Brad LaCour also featuring. The event is at 9pm at 1002 S Main St, FW. Admission is free.

Friday 08 – You can sign up for classes, brush up on your guitar technique, or just listen to some beautiful music at the Lone Star Guitar Festival and Competition this weekend in Weatherford. The fourth annual event can be counted on to liven up the summer at Weatherford College, and the final round of the competition is open to the public. The festival runs today thru Sun at Alkek Fine Arts Center, 225 College Park Av, Weatherford. Tickets are $10-20. Call 682-429-5482.

Saturday 09 – In many Eastern cultures, the simple act of writing is considered an art form, as the ability to produce impeccably neat or outrageously flamboyant script in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean is respected widely. The Kimbell Art Museum conducts a seminar on The Art of Calligraphy in conjunction with its current Asian art exhibit, specializing in Japanese characters. Space is limited, but the seminar starts at 2pm at 3333 Camp Bowie Blvd, FW. Admission is free. Call 817-332-8451. 

Sunday 10 – This weekend at Concerts in the Garden is all tributes, as Martin Herman conducts musical salutes to Michael Jackson on Friday, Queen on Saturday, and Benny Goodman on Sunday. Different soloists will be taking the place of Jackson, Goodman, and Freddie Mercury in these concerts – though wouldn’t it be impressive if the same person did all three? The concerts run Fri thru today at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd, FW. Admission is free-$65. Call 817-665-6000.

Monday 11 – Doctor Who refers to his nemeses the Daleks as “overgrown pepper pots.” If you’re interested in the origins of these hateful robots that want to take over the universe, your local movie theater has you covered when it broadcasts Doctor Who: Genesis of the Daleks, featuring the doctor and his companions going back in time to try to prevent their invention. Tuesday 12 – The Dallas Wings’ season is underway, and though the team is striving to stay above .500, it’s early enough in the campaign that the WNBA team can eye the top of the Western Conference standings. Tonight, the local side will need a win over the Phoenix Mercury, with their huge lineup featuring Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner. Tip-off is at 7pm at UTA College Park Center, 600 S Center St, Arlington. Tickets are $20-45. Call 817-272-9595.
